Wow... a blog. Not at all my "thing". Or so I thought. But, then I had this idea- a really good one, too, in my own humble opinion. I had this idea because I needed to make some big changes in my life and this seemed like the easiest and probably best way to go for the moment. And guess what? It has brought on some really positive influences in my life. It has even opened doors and introduced new passions that I never expected. In a way, I feel enlightened. Happier. Maybe even like I'm a better person now for it. So, I decided to share this idea with all of you in the hopes that I can inspire someone else, too.
My great idea has been this: Do something- at least one thing- that you consider fulfilling every day. It may not sound like much, but you'd be surprised. So many times we let our days pass us by as just plain "average". We get so caught up in the mundane aspects of life so easily that they begin to take us over: social networks, watching TV, drinking and partying not because we want to but because we're bored, or worst of all, gossiping and prying too much into the lives of others... just to name a few. It's funny because people get so wrapped into what they can do most easily or mindlessly that they don't even realize how badly they need a distraction and more importantly, they don't realize how much happier they would be if they made some changes.
It can work for anyone if you set your mind to it. What types of things can you do, you ask? Well, that's what my blog will be about, but really, it can be anything. Something new. Something different. Something creative. It could take five minutes or it could take an entire day. Just make sure it makes you happy and make sure you keep up with it daily.
Before I delve into all of the projects and activities I've accomplished since starting this new mission, I want to tell you a little about how it has affected my life and the reason I decided to begin blogging about it.
Circumstances. We all have them, right? Sometimes, when life deals us a bad hand and we find ourselves in a not-so-good situation, it's really easy to get discouraged or depressed. Trust me, I know. The whole reason I began to embrace positive changes is because I found myself in a particularly nasty set of circumstances: on top of the typical stresses for a recent college grad, I lost my best friend and, despite all of the love I felt and share with others, my whole world seemed to collapse. In the midst of all the anger, anxiety, and depression that stemmed from that, I realized that I was, in a way, choosing that reaction. I mean, yes, some of those emotions were obviously out of my control, but I let them weigh me down to the point that it was taking over my life. We all get to those low points, but we have to spin our perspective around a bit. It really hit me when I thought about how this particular friend dealt with her problems: she put a smile on and kept going. I realized that if she were here, she would help me find distractions and help build my life up from there. That's how I came to the conclusion that doing something fulfilling every day would be the perfect way to get myself back on a good page.
So, that is what I'm doing. I'm taking all of this energy and these charged emotions and converting them into something fulfilling. Or, in a sense, I'm overcoming adversity through creativity and adventure. It's working beautifully, so I can't wait to share this journey in the hopes that someone... even just one person... will gain something from it as well.
